Animal Studies-What do you know about Ladybugs, Bullfrogs, and Painted Ladies?

The world of lady bugs

A ladybug’s lifecycle can live up to 2 years. It’s first an egg, Then it’s larval, then it’s pupa, then finally it’s an adult. The ladybug has three colors, red, and orange, yellow with black spots. Ladybugs live where their prey lives like plants, herbs, bushes, trees and grass. The ladybugs can cesium Aphids, Moth eggs, and small insects. The male ladybugs are slightly shorter than the female. Ladybug’s predators are other ladybugs, parasitic wasps, parasitic flies, and insect eating birds. (Rare) their protection is toxic chemicals. Ladybugs have toxic chemicals in their blood to warn the predators they taste bad. It is called reflex bleeding.

Bullfrogs

This is the story of a bullfrog. The life cycle starts off with a bullfrog’s egg. Then the egg hatches and a tadpole come out. Soon the tadpole grows arms and legs and loses its tale and gills. Then the tadpole is a frog. A bullfrog eats anything that can fit in its mouth. Other bullfrogs and snakes are their predators. Their habitats are near a water source. They can lay up to 25,000 eggs at a time. The bullfrog is green to greenish-brown and their back is olive. Bullfrogs will avoid their gender to survive. Bullfrogs have long, sticky tongues like every frog does.

Painted Lady Butterfly

The painted lady is one of the most popular insects for classrooms, and is available year around . The painted lady sits on its pale green eggs on the upsides of leaves. They live in a environment that supports the survival of species. The body parts of the painted lady are joints,larva, maniple , papal pro legs , and pupa . Known predators are wasps , spiders and birds. The bird is the most feared predator. The habitat is usually meadows, fields, undisturbed areas, and generally a sunny place with nectar. The food for the painted lady is usually aster, cosmos, blazing star, ironweed, Joe pye weeds red clover ,button bush, and privet milkweed. The painted lady is the coolest butterfly around.

What has happened???

It appears that I can't keep up with the class blog very well. Not to worry. In a few weeks, a few of you will be updating our blog for me with a project we will be doing for science!

I can't wait to see the outcome of those projects. Speaking of projects, our Texas Living Wax Museum was quite the success! It seems that our esteemed principals, your fellow 4th graders, and even some parents were very excited and pleased with our museum. Take a look at our two day's worth of Texas figures. Be sure you check back pretty regularly.

Chili's

Thanks to everyone who made it to Chili's tonight to help support our school and also to get some good eats!

I did make it, but chose to do the Take Out method instead. It was good to see some familiar faces there though!

We'll have to wait and see if our class one for the most participation. I was told tonight that we missed having the most participation at McDonald's by 1 person! Wow!

It looks like we have one more fundraiser this month. Next Monday is CiCi's Night. This fundraiser is to help support the current years 5th graders. I think I'll be skipping out on this one, but feel free to go support our 5th graders!
